Ruby Virginia Bakewell, 100, lifelong resident of Brownsville, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury, NC.
She was born January 5, 1912, in Wildell, West Virginia, daughter of Willam & Bessie Culmer Pritts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Boyd Bakewell, sons Robert B and Donald R Bakewell, three brothers: Ward, Mahlon and Richard Pritts;, daughter-in-law Emily Fleming Bakewell, and son-in-law James H Higinbotham.
She is survived by son Wm James Bakewell, of Brownsville; daughters RuthAnn Higinbotham of Lansing, MI, and Susan J. McVey of Salisbury, NC, with whom she made her home the past 3 years; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Ruby was a member of the Brownsville Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. She spent her life as a homemaker. Besides caring for and spending time with five generations of loving family members, she enjoyed being with beloved Second Street neighbors and friends, gardening and playing dominos.
Friends will be received at the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, November 10, 2012 until 10:30 AM the hour of service with the Rev. Edward Truitt officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park at Briar Hill, PA.
