Robert Denzel Smith Sr., 81, of Hiller, PA and formerly of Isabella, PA , passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 with his family by his side.
He was born November 8, 1929, in Masontown, PA, the son of Denzel and Cleo Smith who preceded him in death, along with a younger brother Weldon James in 2001. In 1949 he married Ruth Alice Myers and they were married for 51 years until her passing in 2000. He was also preceded in death by a dear friend and companion, Gracie Myers, in 2009.
Robert worked as a Conductor for the Monongahela Railroad in Brownsville for over 40 years until his retirement in 1989. An avid Steeler and Penguin fan, he loved to be surrounded by his family and always had time for his multitude of grandchildren.
Left to share his memory are the following sons and daughters. Robert D. Jr. and fiancé Josephine Patton of Masontown, daughter in law Kimberly S. Smith of Hibbs, Dana A and wife Anna of Isabella, Douglas J of Waltersburg, Daniel D. and wife Geraldine of Isabella, Debra L. Samol and husband Richard of Hiller, Ronald L. and wife Lori of Isabella, and Robin A. Cipriani and husband Barry of Arensberg. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Friends and family will be received in the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 1:00PM the hour of service with the Rev. Andy Miles officiating.
Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park in Brier Hill, PA.
