Norman Ray Parsons Sr., 86 of Brownsville, passed away early Thursday morning at the Presbyterian Hospital after a fall in his home.
He was born March 13, 1928 in Hiller, PA. The son of the late Bythie Parsons Patrick and Jay Parsons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Billy and George.
He was a graduate of Centerville High school class of 1946. Upon graduating, he joined the Air Force where he served 3 years. He then attended California University where he majored in English, until drafted into the army for the Korean Conflict where he obtained the rank of Sergeant, while serving in the 7th infantry division. He was a member of the South Brownsville United Methodist Church, and a member of the American Legion Post 940. He was a retired school bus driver of both the Brownsville Bus Lines (California bus 8), and the US Steel, Duquesne Works.
Ray is survived by his wife of 64 years Sarah Pirt Parsons, daughter Cindy Wardman (Tom), daughter Gai Parsons (Jim), son Ray Parsons (Leslie), granddaughters Kellie Wardman (Jodie), Keri Wardman (Justin), Kendle and Mallory Parsons, sister BeaAnn Kurjanowicz (Boo-boo), several sisters and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, Front St. Brownsville, on Sunday , June 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Monday June 23, 2014 until 1:00 p.m., the hour of service with Pastor Jay Polowsky officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Posts 295,940,& 838.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Ray's name to South Brownsville United Methodist Church.
