Michael “Mike” Lewis Hritz, 84, of Apollo, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Mike was a life-long resident of Western PA. Born on April 13, 1940 in Grindstone, PA, he grew up in Brownsville, Fayette County, PA and graduated from Brownsville High School with the class of 1958. He moved to Upper Burrell, Westmoreland County, PA in 1967 to take a job with Alcoa R&D Technical Center, where he spent his entire career and retired after 37 years of service.
He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and served in many church-related rolls throughout his life. He is fondly remembered as a man of generosity and great humor, a gardener, a lover of the outdoors, and a lifelong hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Margaret (Nichols) Hritz, formerly of Brownsville, PA. He was the oldest of three children and is survived by his brother Ronald Hritz of Port Hueneme, CA and sister Marge Farmer (h: Marty Farmer) of Silverdale, WA.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Ann (Binns) Hritz; his two daughters, Deanna Hritz of Apollo, PA and Tina Riedel (h: Dr. Brian Riedel) of Morgantown, WV; and his three grandchildren, Cecilia (Tregelles) Bäumer (h: Felix Bäumer) of Nashville, TN, Emily Tregelles of Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, and Michael Tregelles of Nashville, TN.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 12 pm followed by a funeral service at 1 pm at the Novak-Melenyzer Funeral Home, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA. This service will be officiated by Rev. Paul M. Reiner. Interment will follow directly after at Westland Cemetery, Brownsville.
Mike was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by many.
