Mary Hartmann Obituary

Mary E. Hartmann, 101, of Brownsville, passed away at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital on November 26, 2022.  Mary was born on August 16, 1921 in Captina, West Virginia to the late William and Augusta (Oswald) Keck.

Presbyterian by faith, Mary was a lifelong member of Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church in Brownsville. She loved her job at the preschool there.  Miss Mary kept in touch with many of her “students” throughout the years after her retirement.

She also spoke proudly of her 10 years as an employee at the Columbia Gas location  on Bank Street in Brownsville.  She enjoyed seeing the public when working at the front desk.

Mary loved listening to big band music and playing her piano.  Mary always had an open door for friends and family.  She loved to cook and entertain for everyone.  Mary, the youngest of eight siblings, was the last of a profound family generation.  She became a role model for grace, charm, and character.

Surviving to cherish Mary’s memory are her daughters Lynne Hartmann of Brownsville and Kathy (Paul) Chafin of Brownsville; her son Robert (Krisha) Hartmann of Aliso Viejo, CA; her grandsons Ryan, Neil and Evan Chafin; her granddaughters Alexandria, Anya, and Tatiana Hartmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her seven brothers and sisters, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Robert John Hartmann who passed away in 2000.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the NOVAK-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA 15417.  Interment will be held privately at Lafayette Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asked if donations could be made in Mary's name to Shriners Hospital for Children at 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140 and to Fort Burd Preschool at 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville, PA 15417.
