Harold "Chops" Laughery, 96, of West Brownsville, PA who was affectionately know as "Chops" to his friends and family went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday April 1, 2012.
He was born Tuesday, January 18, 1916 in Brownsville, PA the son of Alfred and Beulah (Beeman) Laughery in Brownsville,PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Frances (Dunker) Laughery in 2011 and brothers: Alfred and Robert Laughery.
Harold was a member of the First Christian Church at 512 Second Street in Brownsville and the West Brownsville Fire Department, where he was a former chief. Harold was also a longtime member of the Lions Club and an honorary member of the West Brownsville American Legion and Hiller Fire Department.
"Chops" led an interesting life with various jobs working in the mines, coke ovens, construction and as a River Boat Captain. He retired from the Fredericktown Ferry "Frederick".
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with his family and always had an interesting story to tell you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters Marjorie McGinley and husband Gerry, Hurst , TX and Virginia Camino and husband Ron, Litchfield , OH; sister Ruth Swearman, of Monrovia, Maryland and Brother Don Laughery of Brooklyn Park, Maryland.
Grandchildren Christopher and Jaime Camino, Nancy McAdams , and Judy McGinley ; Great-Grandchildren Connor and Julia Camino and Jack, Matthew and Allison McAdams. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received in the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA, on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-901
PM and Wednesday, April 4, 2012 until 10:00 AM the hour of service with the Rev. Paul Sandusky officiating.
West Brownsville Fire Department will honor "Chops" with a special service at the Novak Funeral Home Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier, Hill, PA.
