Gerald Wayne Wertz, Sr., 71, of Hiller, PA, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at home, with his family by his side.
He was born February 25, 1943 in Baden, PA, the son of George and Anna Mae (Horner) Wertz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Ross Wertz.
Gerald served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. He was stationed on board the USS Mauna Kea. From 1967 to 1979 he was in the United States Army Reserves and received the Award of the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal for exemplary behavior. Displaying a devotion to duty and an outstanding loyalty to his unit. He was a member of American Legion Posts 51 and 940.
Most of all, Gerald, was a loving husband, dad and grandpap. He was his son's Hero. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved working on watches. Also, he was a slotcar racer at the former Malden Racetrack and an avid racecar fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frances Wertz, Hiller, PA; son Jerry Wertz, Jr. and wife Terri, East Millsboro, PA; grandson, Jerry Wertz III; two sisters, Connie Wertz, Brownsville, PA and Charlotte Miller and husband Lawrence, Monarch, PA and sister-in-law, Mary Wertz, Brownsville, PA.
Friends will be received at the ALLISON CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 416 Vernon Street, Allison, PA on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 5-7 PM when a Memorial Service will be held.
