Donald E. Davison, 83, of Brownsville, PA passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011. He was born June 21, 1928 in Brownsville, PA. Where he spent his entire life.
He is the son of the late John and Frances Davison. In addition to his parents, his sister Peggy and infant daughter Orlena Marian preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife; Oleda (Sebolt) Davison, daughter Dona Koon (late husband Thomas) of Brownsville, three sons; Wayne of Idaho Springs, CO, David (wife Laurie) of Monessen, PA., and Paul (wife Tina) of Brownsville, PA. Also surviving is a brother Jack of Phoenix, AZ, and a sister Nancy of Coal Center, PA. Also surviving are his five grandchildren; Wayne Jr. of Ralph, PA. Amanda (husband Adam) of Brownsville/Denbo, Christina & Joshua of Brownsville, Amy Lynn of Monessen, PA. And three great grandchildren; Gavin & Wyatt of Ralph, PA. and Bentley of Brownsville/Denbo.
As a teenager Mr. Davison worked at Flint Gregg’s Bottle Works in Brownsville. He also worked at West Penn Feed in West Brownsville. Mr. Davison delivered mail for the Brownsville Postal Service in 1944 during the Christmas rush. He also worked in all three movie theaters (Plaza, Strand, and Bison) under the ownership of “Moody” & Dickenson.
Mr. Davison was a retired Meter Inspector with Columbia Gas of PA. His career with the Gas Co. started in 1944 with the Greensboro Natural Gas Co. That same year the name was changed to the Manufacturers Light and Heat Co. In 1962 it was changed to the present Columbia Gas of PA. The first three years of employment was part-time as he was attending High School. In October 1946 he enlisted into the US Army Air Force. After Basic Training in Texas he spent 2 ½ years in Japan during the Occupation. While in Japan he had the privilege of climbing Mt. Fuji, a volcano that has been dormant for years. After being discharged in 1949 from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland he continued his career with the Gas Co. until ill health caused his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Davison had been an avid Duck Pin and Ten Pin Bowler for over 50 years. He also enjoyed playing Pool (Billiards) with some of his closest friends and family.
Mr. Davison spent two years on the Brownsville Boro Council, and Vice President of the Brownsville Boro Parking Authority. He was also past President of the Columbia Gas Retirees Club. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 58 and lifetime member of the American Legion Post #295 of Brownsville, PA. He was also a member of the California Gun Club and the Brownsville Eagles. He was also a lifetime member of the Brownsville Area Schools Alumni Association.
Friends will be received in the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 2--4 & 7-9 PM and Thursday, December 1, 2011 until 11 AM, the hour of service, with the Rev. David Chin officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
