Catherine “Kate” Johns was born on April 16, 1928 and died on May 7, 2017 at Sagepoint Senior Living Services in La Plata, Maryland. She was a daughter of the late Eugene and Emma Jones. While living in Brownsville, she was a faithful and loyal member of Mt. Zion AME Church where she served on the Usher Board, Stewardess Board, and participated and assisted in coordinating many church functions and events.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Harry B. Johns, Sr. and a daughter Shelley Denise Johns.
She was joined in marriage by Harry “Hap” Johns on February 22,1950. Under the Word of God, they loved, nurtured, and raised, Harry Jr., Horace, Carl, and Lori. They are all, law abiding, honorable, and most importantly, Christian children.
Kate was a woman of great faith and loved helping anyone she could. This love for her fellow brethren is demonstrated by her years of volunteer service at Cross Keys nursing facility in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
Kate was family oriented and her biggest loves were her God, her children, and Mt. Zion AME Church where she baked her delicious macaroni and cheese for the many Sunday dinners.
She leaves her four children to cherish her memories, Harry of Youngstown, Ohio, Horace of Arlington, Texas, Carl of White Plains, Maryland, and Lori of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Also, a daughter in-law Deborah Johns of Youngstown, Ohio, 25 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of relatives and loving friends.
Friends will be received at the Mt. Zion AME Church, 214 Cadwallader St., Brownsville, PA 15417 on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Carl S. Kemp officiating.
Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA.
